Map of Prison Grounds

The natural boundaries around Angola make it almost impossible to escape. Surrounded by the Mississippi River on 3 sides and by Tunica Hills on the fourth side, the 18,000 acre penetintiary houses more than 5000 inmates.  The 18,000 acre prison is the size of Manhattan, New York.  The Farm, as it is known, grows enough vegetables to feed 11 prisons, including Angola.  Warden Burl Cain says, “We never open a can of vegetables (at Angola)”.
